Drewmotty
I’m rebuilding a gearbox and overdrive which has previously been assembled using parts from various source vehicles. The main casing is 4a The top cover has a switch mounting in the side reversing light position as found on TR6s but it is threaded 7/16unf rather than the more usual coarse thread to take a standard overdrive isolator type switch. Does anybody know which model the cover is from or where I can get a suitable switch?
harlequin
This may help https://trf.zeni.net/TR6bluebook/82.php?s_wt=1280&s_ht=800 having said that my TR6 has a saloon box which has a cover that's not on the list. It's strange that your cover has drillings for a reverse light switch and a dip stick. George
harlequin
Not much on the telly so I had a look at the Rimmer catalogue https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID200093 It looks like you have TR2 to early 3A cover where they supplied a screw in blanking plug, which you have assumed to be a reverse switch position, hence the strange thread. Chilliman
If the hole is in the right position - drill & helicoil?
BlueTR3A-5EKT
This might be the switch. Pt No GAE191 http://minispares.com/product/classic/GAE191.aspx wrong. That is 3/8 unc. Edited July 25, 2023 by BlueTR3A-5EKT
mike ellis
It's not quite like either of my sidescreen 'boxes (early 3 and early 3A). They both have only two bosses on top and no side drilling. I believe the early 2 'box only had one boss - o/d on top gear only. The dipstick hole does suggest a sidescreen item but could it be from another Triumph. That dipstick hole looks as if it may be threaded which it shouldn't be as the dipstick is a push fit.
