Malbaby
What other cars are the same Girlings used in....eg MGB/other? Edited June 3, 2022 by Malbaby
Andy Moltu
I think they were used on a number of contemporary Fords although they may have used the metric threaded versions.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Austin/Morris 1800. Rover 2000, As stated a slew of Fords from the same era. I think early Rolls Royce Silver Shadow had 2 pairs at front.
boxofbits
I think they were called the P-16 Caliper. Widely used I believe. Kevin
Malbaby
Thanks guys....There are not any new "TR" replacements for sale here in Australia...So I was looking for alternate sources that may be available. Having mine that are in poor condition reconditioned would be very expensive eg $500. Can anyone confirm or otherwise the use of MGB calipers. BlueTR3A-5EKT
Non Starter I fear. MGB discs are thinner than and smaller dia than TR. I guess the offset is wrong too. MGB GT V8 are the same thickness as TR. Those calipers are unique to that car. To create a caliper for that car you need a pair of MGB and a pair of Triumph 2000 calipers. Split them and fit one half of one type with the opposite half from the other. However.... MGC used the same caliper as a TR if that helps. The type used was imperial threaded. jerrytr5
Are they so bad you cannot recondition them? Usually the pistons rust so a new set of stainless pistons, a seal kit and new bleed screws brings them back into service. The piston bore generally only needs a polish with fine wet & dry to remove rust deposits unless they have been sitting unused since 1968. Jerry
Ralph Whitaker
Just looked in Moss website and indeed the MGC uses the same caliper, same part number, but also states will fit the Austin Healey 3000 MkIII if that helps at all. Both cars being fairly rare I would imagine. I was surprised to find that the seal kit and brake pads for my TR3a were marked Ford Cortina , so maybe thats your best place to start searching. Just done a search for Mk2 Cortina calipers and found hundreds of listings, below is text from one such listing. Ford M16 Cortina Capri Escort Mk2 Mk3 Mk4 Mk5 Front Calipers. M16 calipers were fitted to many rwd fords in the 70s and 80s. Cortina, Capri and escort. Some very early cars had type 14 calipers. These have fluid connection at the rear of the caliper. Others had P16 type. These are very similar to the M16 but with an imperial fluid connection. These can be swapped for an M16 by changing the flare nut to a metric one.
