SuzanneH
Here is a great photo of Performance Cars Brentford on the A4 prior to the M4 being built there. The pub The Globe top left used to have great live music up until only a few years ago.

RobH
They appear to have a TR6 going for £1095. Might be worth wandering down for a look. As a cash-strapped youth I used to drool over those adverts in Motor Sport but you didn't buy cars like that on an apprentice's money. '72 - that's the year I bought my first rag-top, an AH Sprite (not from them I might add).

I bought my very first car (a 1970 Mk1 1.1 Escort) from Performance Cars in 1979 for about £150. The owner of the place was a well known local crook, it was only firing on 3 cylinders and had plenty of filler in the sills........that said, once sorted it was great little runner that and took me and Bev on lots of camping trips down to Devon and Cornwell. Tony_C
Agree Ian.... With a big dollop of hindsight, I’d also be kicking the tyres of the Lotus Elan and - of course - the 4A. ... Snapshot into what we always knew and still know now........ MGB’s = ‘10 a penny’ .. not literally but common as... Also, note the Vitesse was ‘cheapest’ car listed... Undervalued at that time imo
Charlie D
If I remember right, just down the road was “the Chequered Flag” garage. I used to drive along the A4 in the late 1960’s and remembering seeing the cars parked outside, similar to the front of Performance Cars. When looking for details I found this: https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-a-bit-of-fun-at-the-chequered-flag-1957-online Try doing that today on Chiswick High Street !
