qim
Hi Does anybody know where I can get a TR3/4 6-blade engine fan? Thank you qim
Don H.
There's one on eBay (US) right now, although it's kinda rough. They're typically on there a few times a year. It's common to have to restore these with new blades and rivets. A friend and excellent maxhinist did the one that's now on my car. Other (possibly better) options include Mark Macy's hurricane fan blade of yellow TR250/6 fan with Moss short hub extension.
qim
There's one on eBay (US) right now, although it's kinda rough Hi Don Can't find it... Can you give me the link, please? I saw something in the .co.uk but soes not seem to be for a TR
EdwinTiben
HI, i think its this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triumph-GT6-gt-6-fan-blade-assembly-/182253217889?hash=item2a6f236861:g:wI4AAOSwt7ZXpjWT&vxp=mtr sometimes they are listed as tropical fans for tr3/4 but are identical to the gt6. I know from experience: i took the original gt6 cooling fan from my gt6 mk1 and fitted it to my tr2. It fitted without any modification ! in combination with the original bellows thermostat, even in 33 degrees C likes last week here in the netherlands, the tr2 doesnt get hot when traffic jam ! I had nearly 40º here for the last 6 weeks!... Anyway, thanks. I guess something like that would need restoring and I wonder who could do it...

I guess something like that would need restoring and I wonder who could do it... 40 is a bit too high for the netherlands but probably the fan will deal with that too. restoring.. i had it blasted and painted, i check the rivets which were fine and checked the angle of the blades. qim
and checked the angle of the blades. How do you do that, to make sure they're spot on? The fan on Ebay seems to have the middle missing. Is this fan identical to the TR3/4 one produced by triumph? Edited August 28, 2016 by qim

Guest
THIS is an item for the SDF (spares fund) to reproduce! Or better, Edwin... as an entrepreneur... surely you must be considering a remake using a 3D printer? Menno
Don H.
I suggested the tropical fan to the SDF a few years ago. No reply. They're not interested. But then, I'm not a good old boy, so not really a surprise. There are a number of other tropical fan blade threads on here, including some where I've posted photos pre- and post-restoration. Guest
I suggested the tropical fan to the SDF a few years ago. Great minds think alike Don! Surely this must be one of the easiest to produce TR items! Menno
qim
Surely this must be one of the easiest to produce TR items! Menno Well, I don't mind finding an engineering firm to make them in Portugal, if I had one to copy from or the exact description of the fan with angles, materials, etc. How much do you think they would be worth? qim Edited August 29, 2016 by qim
Guest
I am no engineer, but there's a fellow forumite who produced a bunch of beautifully looking, high quality Brooklands screens. Surely, these screens are more difficult to design and produce than a 6 blade fan. Perhaps this forumite can help you designing and can help you to figure out the costs. At least we need one fully functional fan as a pattern - or (plan B...) go the route that Edwin choose: using the GT6 fan as a template. Surely every solution will be superior to the Original 4 blade fan! Menno
Ian Vincent
The design should benothing more technical than copying one of the originals but drilling holes to fit the fan blades every 60 deg. instead of every 90 deg. It might be necessary to trim the blades slightly if there's a clash. Rgds Ian
RogerH
Hi Folks, Moss have one listed but annoyingly NCA (not currently available) http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/cooling-system/cooling-fan-fittings/fan-blades-hub-extension-fittings.html item #64. Is there a demand for this fan? If so why not contact Moss and see if they can get a batch made. It may be that the numbers make it un-economical. At present many people are removing their fans and going electric. Roger

Keeping the same profit Will probably mean a price we're not willing to pay..?
qim
Let's start by making sure this IS what we are talking about. Is this the real thing as produced for the TR4A and easily adapted to the TR3A?
Don H.
Photos of a restored six-bladed high-pitch Triumph six-cylinder fan, aka "tropical fan". Never a factory fitment to four-cylinder engines (as far as my research has uncovered) but possibly fitted in-period by dealers or private individuals. Certainly contemporaneous with the fours in sedans and GT6. Edited August 31, 2016 by Don H.
qim
Hi Don Do you know what colour the blades are supposed to be? White, light grey?
stuart
Hi Don Do you know what colour the blades are supposed to be? White, light grey? Plain Ally originally. Stuart.
Guest
Cutting costs, obviously... Looking at the fan, there must be a way to have this sorted with a 3D printer or CNC machine (I am no engineer). Perhaps not original, but certainly worth trying, I think. Don H.
Plain Ally originally. Stuart. Exactly right. Mill finish aluminium.
EdwinTiben
Exactly right. Mill finish aluminium. For the gt6 the blades were yellow!
Don H.
For the gt6 the blades were yellow! Any photos of that, Edwin? That's new to me. Was your yellow originally? I've seen a number of old GT6 fans (in the US) with no hint of any color beyond natural aluminum blades on black hub. There's a yellow mini 6-bladed fan made by BMIHT, but it's different in many details from the triumph one, and of course the yellow plastic TR250/6 fan. I think I've seen two-bladed small Triumph fans in yellow, but not the 6-cylinder-/6-bladed.
EdwinTiben
Hi, yes it was! And theres a brochure with a yellow fan on a mk1. Will look if i can find it..
