Richard Young
Need to replace this...It is 1/2".Can only find new 3/8" Could I replace with 3/8? Any guidance would be really appreciated.Would it mean the other pulleys need to be 3/8,which would not be an issue as I am replacing all. Regards Richard.
Peter Cobbold
Richard, The belts drive by friction along their sides so a 3/8 belt will be needed, and I doubt it would sink adequately into 1/2 pulleys. I didn't know new dampers were available...would be interested in knowing where from. Is it a saloon fitment? Peter
DaveN
I bought a brand new damper from eBay US of A it was IIRC $125. And the timing marks are in the right place! Didn't have to pay postage though as my two year old grandson had to carry it in his rucksack.... Funnily enough the airport security never batted an eyelid! One other thing was I got the impression from the seller that they were supplied from Europe or Australia.
Richard71
Surely it's NOS (new old stock), is the rubber in good condition and not cracked or perished? As Peter enquires, there's a few of us would be interested to know if there's someone out there re-producing them. Richard.
Richard Young
Thanks for input guys. Mine has chunk of metal out of the edge of the flange of the groove although the rubber seems OK,Suppose I could get it repaired with new metal and then get it balanced.Must be way out of balance as it is...hence I was looking to replace it. Rimmers list one with 3/8 groove so my original question was..would this be ok. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-214479 Richard. The thicker pully might be heavier than standard 1/2 inch and that might affect the frequencies at which damping peaks. Or the rubbber might have been changed to bring the frequency back to standard for the 6 cylinder engines. 'Torsional vibration dampers' are a nightmare to understand - I gave up. But I think if that part was originally fitted to a 2.5 litre 6-pot TR or saloon it should be OK. But I cant be certain. There's a long thread here: http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/46104-about-crankshaft-dampers/?p=365893 Peter

DaveN
Ahha that looks familiar! I think that's where I got mine from! Manufactured in Germany (Bastuk???). It was free shipping from Ohio to Florida and two year old grandson had to carry it back.
