dpb
I have searched but found no info on oiling these on the 4A. I know on the Herald there is always a lot of talk about keeping these oiled ( or greased - there is a controversy). Are they "Sealed for life" on a 4A, or should I be checking occasionally? I can't see any reference to them in the WSM lubrication schedule. Dave ====
ChrisR-4A
Book says gear oil, a small grease gun does this fine, Ive oiled mine each year since 1996 and no problems or replacement parts needed yet. One tip is push a bit of thick card up between the disc and the back plate to keep excess oil off the disc.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
I use Steering box oil in them or EP140 - sidescreen car Peter W
RogerH
Hi Dave, I believe that originally they were greased and seemed to work OK. The modern thinking is to use a thick oil as it may spread better. However you must ensure that the bottom plate of the trunion is sealed - if not you will lubricate your brakes. Lebro
Most trunnions seem to leak, fix is to soft solder the bottom plate as shown. Bob.
