Spinning Reverse Gear

Recommended Posts

HI Folks,

whenever I TRy to engage reverse after moving forwards it is always difficult as the gear is spinning.

This happens all the time no matter how far I depress the clutch.

I had the box overhauled last summer (2014) but this hasn't cured it.

I'm taking the engine and gearbox out at the end of the month so will be able to do whatever is needed.

This is a TR4A engine and GB with 'A' type OD

Roger.

Have you tried this:

clutch down, pull briefly into top gear using it's synchro to stop the input shaft spinning,

then quickly round to reverse.

If it still crunches then clutch is not releasing properly.

Cheers

Bob.

Hello Rodger, there a few things t check

1, all the links /pins/ holes in clutch pedal /MC rod end/ and clevis pin.

a little play in each, all adds up

2, you had the box reconned, butt, did ye have the cross shaft looked at

3, the thrust bearings actually ok is it, as if its drying up, it can drag the input round wid it

but there will be noises, Is there a noise

4, if the spigots tightening up on shaft, then it will also trun the input shaft

5, the crank aint going bak,n forads is it !!!

6, Is the clutch MC working OK, if it aint closing off, then it wont be giving full stroke

there a wee rubber seal ont end of the wibbly wobbly thingy in the inside.

its this that closes it off.

A quick little fix, as said above, try it in another gear

Butt, 2,nds better, as 2 nd is on the actuall rev gear, so will wurk better than 4th
