Richardtr3a
Is there any supplier out there who has stainless captive nuts used on the wings and front panel of the 3A. I am very pleased that I used stainless bolts last time I worked on the bodywork because they all came off without any problems. Can any one help please ? Ian Vincent
I made my own from a length of flat bar which I drilled and tapped myself. Rgds Ian
Drewmotty
Be very careful if you intend to use stainless bolts in stainless nuts. Stainless on stainless tends to gall badly unless well coated wth a suitable anti-galling paste and once the threads have picked up they may as well have been welded together. Richardtr3a
So it seems to be best to leave the existing nuts and use my stainless bolts. Thanks for the advice

foster461
Richard, I bought some SS bar with the intention of making my own square nuts. I ran into four problems: Could only get metric bar so the nuts would be undersized The SS bar is a bugger to cut, this stuff is hard It is a bugger to drill it is a bugger to tap (I broke a tap while trying) In the end I stuck with the plain steel nuts and SS bolts. I doubt that the next guy that rebuilds this car is going to have any problems getting it apart. Stan
