Hi Folks,

a while ago Stuart asked me if I could knock up some parts that are no longer available.

These are the trim cups on the surrey rear frame that conceal the bolt heads that hold the roof on.

Item 9 http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/weather-equipment/hard-tops/surrey-top-fittings-tr4-4a.html

The originals are a one piece pressing from stainless steel - probably cost 1d each to make.

The first few that I made were a two piece fabrication silver soldered together in mild steel. These were Nickel plated.

I recently made some more and these I got chromed and rather fancy (even Peter Dykins would like these).

The plater asked wouldn't it be easier to make them from Stainless - well, it's complicated.

The other day I had a go at making the cup part of the item from stainless and to my surprise it worked.

As mentioned in another post a while ago the cup is spun on a lathe (not turned ie cutting metal away) into the required shape.

This cup is then silver soldered onto a flat plate. The silver soldering went better than expected.

The attached photo shows two stainless steel cups on the left and a chromed cup on the right.

Sadly the 1d production cost has seriously changed (and it ain;t cheaper)

Roger
