robgeev
Haved searched the forum to no avail, but some of you must have done this already. I want to fit a new modern internal fanned alternator to my 6, would like to be around 65amp output and available. Got any clues? I seem to recall an advert for one from one of the suppliers, if anyone has this conversion, please give me as much info as possible (manufacturers part numbers ideally) if I can source new units at the right money, I can offer them on the forum! I realise the bigger acr's can put this out-being a Land Rover dealer, we have a range of this type of thing in stock-no good. I suspect it will probably be a Jap unit or maybe a Bosch. This converison is being done mostly for looks, but the extra efficiency would be nice too! I appreciate I may have to renew feeds, and would not be against bracket mods if needed. Cheers. Rob. vanflyer
Have a look at the Vintage Triumph Register site, there is a lot of info on different types of alternator conversions it give GM as an example but i think there is a 1980's Ford Fiesta example as well. robgeev
With respect, an '80s Fiesta isn't really the look I'm trying for, check out Cambridge Motorsports range for the theme! Rob.
Rex Wyer
Rob, are you looking at the Edge or Race proven alternators ? The idea of a self exciting alternator sounds most interesting.( no need to put Viagra in the tank then ? )
robgeev
The edge ones, but I have no intention of spending owt like that! I know that that kind of unit can come for £90 ish, just need some pointers, or spend some time annoying stores guy at Lucas/Bosch dealer in Derby! Coming to Weston Park at weekend? I'm coming if not raining and my "war wound" is not playing up! (Just come out of hospital-don't ask)!!!! Rob.
Bob Stubbs
Rob I have the 65 A conversion as supplied by Revington. Not an internal fanned unit though and damned if I can find a serial number on it. Can send you a photo of it if you'd like.

TIMS
Rob Did you ever find the Alternator you were looking for? If so, do you have a part number / supplier. Regards Tim
mccallm
Hi, Not sure if this is any help, but there is a guy on ebay that sells new Denso alternators( not sure where they are from) approx £50. I used one on my kitcar with no problems at all. Not sure what the spec is,the kitcar has gone and replaced with TR6 but I am considering converting to one myself. Just type in Denso alternator as search and they should come up Mark
TIMS
Mark It's all about part numbers. There are uprated (I want 55amp +) alternators out there that are a direct fit to the TR6, and others that look like they might be, but you need to grind a bit off the mounting, or turn the body around, or.... There are threads on here referring to alternatives but 3/4 hour last night searching did not come up with any part numbers quotable for direct replacements. The US sites advise that Bosch 0-120-489-244 (which is certainly a Bosch worldwide part number) does fit as a direct replacement but it does not come up on any searches I have done on UK websites. The same Bosch is on a 78-80 Fiesta (is an American Fiesta the same as a UK Fiesta?) but only the one with aircon and heated rear window, again no part number. I am innately a lazy soul who works normal hours and cannot be ringing round trying to trace part numbers from suppliers who do not really want to be dealing with one-offs. So - has anybody got any direct replacement alternator, 55amp+, with pulley & fan, suppliers and part numbers? Regards Tim

TIMS
Neil For Why? Made for a different size fan belt? His ad says TR6 73-75, I can't find any reference to a change in alternator or belt between CP and CR cars. I'm puzzled. (not unusual) Regards Tim

Stan Stan Exactly,I did not say it was incorrect if you use a pulley that is not the correct width for the fan belt you are using I would take a few spares as it will not last very long Neil Edited August 15, 2008 by ntc
