worn bottom arm repair solutions TR4

Recommended Posts

Don't know how but missed the fact that the hole in the bottom arms where the nylon bush goes has worn out of round until I put the new bushes in.

given the fact there is not a lot of meat around the hole, is boring and sleeving back to size viable/safe?

OR

do I weld the worn portion and re-machine to size

any comments welcome

Given the "hassle / cost factor " of welding the extra metal and then reaming out, why not buy a decent secondhand one from any one of the specialists, e.g.TRGB, TR Bitz, TR Trader,TR Shop, etc. It's got to be a lot easier and quicker.( be very specific, in your description, as to which arm you order )

I looked at second hand ones when Ihad this problem on my 3a but they were all a bit out of round so in the end I welded it up my self and got a machine shop to bore it out for nominal cost. At least you then know that it is round.

David Manners/Moss Brumm used to do a repaired exchange service. The inner bush hole being bored and re-sleeved to suit.

Elite Suspensions in Coventry offered these new at one time.

The lower wishbone arm forging is common to TR2/3/4/5/6, Reliant Sabre, Scimitar and Daimler Dart - It is machined in different ways for these vehicle ranges.
