paul83
Hi, Does anyone know the approximate weight of a standard cylinder head of a TR6? (there is probably a variation from US/ UK, but I'm just after an approximate). Cheers, Paul

jellison
I'd have thought it was lighter that that. A Tr4 one is low 20's and much fatter and not much shorter (much bigger bore). Must be well under 30kg.
Alec Pringle
I suspect you're right Jon, even with valves and rocker gear a 6-pot head can be lifted with one arm, having moved one recently, so it ain't that hefty - although it's a bit heavier than a 4-pot head for sure. Cheers, Alec Your arms must be bigger than mine Alec....... I remember buying a S/H TR5/6 head from a Triumph sale at Sandown race course years ago.... and staggering to the car park with it at arms length, trying to keep the grease off my Ben Sherman.... it was exceedingly heavy!...added to that, when it went to have unleaded valve seats fitted, it was found to be cracked between cylinders and ended up in the skip.....caveat emptor and all that.... john
jellison
6 heads are weeding things long and thin, 4 wide and fat. My alloy 4 head save 11kg over iron, so a a 4 would be about 23 - 24kg, 6 can't be more than a few kg more if any.
Nick Jones
Ok..... I've just weighed a completely bare (not even valve guides) and well skimmed 2L 6 cyl head. It's a touch over 24kg. So a fully built 2.5 is going to be a couple of kgs more I guess. So I was a little pessimistic originally - but it's still more than I care to pick up with one hand....... just weedy I guess Nick
