Hard top webasto sun roof

Recommended Posts

Hi WELLSY.

This is an idea I had when I first bought my TR6!! ;)

I looked into it,and apparently, if you can get a complete webasto set up from a TR7,it can be fitted quite effectively into the hardtop for the TR6!

Also, but very rarely, some hard tops had a webasto fitted when new "apparently"!!!

Eventually I decided against it,as I always drive the TR6,as its meant to be driven! with the top down, unless I get caught out!! and my P6 rover has a webasto,so if I cant use the TR6, then the roof is always open on the rover!!

Thinking of fitting a webasto type sun roof to my hard top. Has anyone fitted one or knows if you can still obtain them?

Hi Wellsy,

I do not no what a webasto sun roof is

but i have a sunroof fitted in my hard top i bought the hard top two years ago on e bay,

a car was brought in from America and the

top was not wanted, i liked the look of it because o the sun roof.

i am in the proses of refurbishing it.

the sun roof when stripped down was an alloy casting very well made,

it has a smoked glass top which can be removed, lifted up, or angled

i love the 6 with a hard top they look great and hopefully i will have

some thing different, at the moment it is being shot blasted and primed

had to be careful though not to stretch the metal roof had to get the bloke to promise me

he would paint strip the roof as the shot will stretch the mettle

Hi pink!

My fingers are crossed re your shot blasting!

I had a mint bonnet and boot for a Dolly Sprint ruined by a heavy handed guy!

He did a runner on the landlord of the unit he was renting, and ripped loads of people off!

Sure your guy is better though!!

Dont know what a webasto is? :o

Youve had a sheltered life! :P

Here is the one on my P6! ;)

Its the folding cloth type full length sunroof with wind deflector!

Made by Tudor and Britax!

Everybody learns something new everyday!!

Hi pilke

thanks for the info have seen them did not no they were called webasto

sheltered life living on an island

what do you call the one i have got?

yea he is ok takes an interest in what he is doing trouble is

blasting is treated as a semi skilled job often you get people doing it and haven't got an idea

of what they are doing damaging the job as well as there hands he is stripping it blasting it priming it for 120

i then have to refit the sun roof and fit it to the car before final paint job

i am allso welding up the poppers that hold on the chrome strips think it looks better

Hi Shaun,

To be strictly accurate, early 7s had a Webasto, dealer option; subsequently Weathershield, then later cars an Edrose - the two latter being factory fitment. Approximately Speke, Canley and Solihull build respectively, although I've seen exceptions - presumably overlap or stock shortage at the time.

Cheers,

Alec

There were various makers of this type of roof, some better quality than other lesser copies of the original! and either fitted at the factory or by the dealers.

However the commonly reffered to name for them is a webasto!

Hi Shaun,

the early Webasto sunroof is relatively short, not much more than half the roof length . . . .

whereas the Weathershield and Edrose are about as long as you can get in the roof . . . .

Internally the Edrose has a sort of oval handle within a distinctly triangular housing. It's so long since I sat in a Weathershield equipped car that I can't recall the handle/housing shape, but it isn't triangular !!

Cheers,

Alec

Hi everyone .

Thanks for all your replies . Have had the hardtop on for a few years now and it makes trips out far more civilised regardless of the weather. Although, I miss the occasional blast with the hood down.

A few questions about Web/endrose/weathershield sunroofs fitted to a 6.

What size are they?

Do you get much buffeting and wind noise?

Are they a straight forward item to fit?

Regards Wellsy
