Peter Cobbold
Many years ago I saw a Scimitar loose a front n/s wheel at Copse. I beleive they share the same steel wheels as TR6s and in the paddock afterwards attached to the hub what was left certainly looked like TR6 centre. The outer rim and tyre were still with marshalls at Copse. The driver seemed to be accistomed to these wheels coming apart at the join...( 'hot dinners' came into the conversation). The outer rim and inner disc are welded together so failure there seems a possibility. Is it common?
simonjrwinter
Anyone put 16inch minilite reps on their car? Simon
Alec Pringle
Hi Peter, no, not that common. The stresses involved in serious competition are, in any event, a magnitude or three greater than those encountered in normal road driving. Given the option, I'd prefer Weller steels to factory issue, as we run on the road V8. Cheers, Alec
Peter Cobbold
Alec, That's a relief as my 'Smoothrite steels' have covered around 200k miles- I do look for cracks every so often. Fingers crossed. Peter
