Tr4aJim
Folks, one of my winter projects is to replace the steering shaft bushings on my TR4A, as I found a bit of wobble where the shaft passes into the outer column. I checked on the Moss US web site and they have stock bushings for $6 each, and “upgraded” bushings for a whopping $43 each!!!! I checked on the TR and Revington sites and both offer the upgraded bushing (though both their prices are lower than Moss US, with shipping it’s a wash). The Revington site basically says the stock bushings are a waste of time. However when I checked the Racetorations web site, it says they only use the stock bushings, and the upgraded ones are unnecessary. So what’s the consensus here? Are the “upgraded” bushings that much better than stock, especially considering cost difference? thanks, Jim
Peter V W
Hi Jim, standard bushes should last 30k miles no problem. Peter.
Michel Higuet
When people says it is a great improvement do they go from old worn bushes to "upgraded" or old worn to standard to "upgraded" I replace all bushes with standard, only one great improvement with rack steering rubber from worn to standard to solid aluminium kit. Grahamgl
Jim, When I bought my 4A fifteen years ago, after some research I bought a set of Delrin steering column bushes from Art Lipp in the U SA. You leave the old bushes in the steering column and insert the new bushes up against them. They were very easy to fit and still good. I have also bought a set for the 4 that I am currently restoring. Tr4aJim
Thanks Graham. I just sent Art an email to see if he still offers the bushings. Seems like a much easier process than refitting the stock ones. Jim
