John h
Hi to all, haven’t posted for awhile, not since the bonnet saga just painted engine bay, triumph, Royal blue, quite pleased with the result use a two pack couple of questions, the primer I used was a filler primer two coats, should I put two coats of blue on and how long in between coats also seem to be having trouble getting right into the corners. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated the nozzle on the spray gun is a 1.4 mm
stuart
When spraying 2k (Hope your using a suitable respirator/air fed mask) you need a "Sticky coat" first i.e. a light mist coat and then 2 full coats after that. In that corner it looks like overspray dust build up same under some of the pressing humps too, spraying too quickly and not getting good coverage everywhere too. Stuart. Malbaby
Spray paint all the corners first....cut down the width of the fan spray. Edited October 9, 2023 by Malbaby
BlueTR3A-5EKT
In 1973 I had to re spray the front apron of my 3A. The recess under the headlamps and internal flanges was a particular challenge until I borrowed an airless spray gun. It just threw the paint rather than propelling it with air. Not the best of finishes but certainly did not have the missing paint issues inside the sharp corners Have subsequently used an airless spray gun on pebble dash rendered building walls. A doddle compared to stippling with a brush or roller
John h
I have purchased a mini gun will rub it down start again, will concentrate on internal corners, awkward bits first. When I was spraying it, it all seem to be happening too quick , the gun is very bulky in the tight spaces anyway will try again and see how we go
RogerH
Hi John, the mini guns are quite handy. I have a Sealey gun. You may find rubbing down the 2K is rather challenging. Good luck Roger
stuart
Flat the worst with 600w/dry and then go all over with 1200. Did you get the mix right on the paint as its usually 2/1/10% Stuart.
RogerH
Ooops - I've been using 3 :1 :10% I appears to have set very well Roger
John h
Yeah mix was okay, will post more pics when I get another coat on
John h
Hi to all well a week later and I have had another go. And you were right Roger it was a pig to rub down.made a couple of changes used a smaller gun and also whilst I had the gun pressure at 22 psi pressure coming out of the compressor was way up over 100 psi saw on YouTube. Someone recommended the pressure on the wall out of the compressor. Should be about 15 to 20 psi over gun pressure changed that to about 55 to 60 seems to have made a big difference. I’m pleased with results one thing I would like to know if there are any bits that I’m unhappy with once it dries out. Can I spray them in locally or do I need to start again? As it’s 2k you can’t really blend in repaired areas that well so you’d have to go to the nearest seams and mask and spray that in as a whole, not too bad under bonnet as there’s quite a few seams Stuart
