TR3a gearbox cover gaiter

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I can get a good gaiter/grommet for my gearbox cover (gear leaver). The one I got supposedly from one of the regular suppliers was rigid and split after about eighteen months. Moss' number is 603065 although I didn't get it from Moss.

They are pretty rigid when brand new.

Before fitting, immerse in hot water to  soften - water needs to be pretty hot!

That's what I did with a Moss 603065 in July 2019, and it's still intact.

In case anyone queries why my TR4 uses a TR3 gaiter, it is because the gear lever is a Works' special, and rises vertically from the box, not leaning backwards.

My gaiter split where the gearstick comes through so I fitted a gaiter for a dipstick from an Mg to it.   I cut the top off to get the stick through them pushed it down over the top of the split
Cut off the bit that the MG dipstick would fit through  as smeared red

Been on there working fine for best part of 10 years now.

Thanks for the replies so far. Peter your dipstick gaiter fits over the centre part of the original gaiter?

Des.

Yes quite a nice fit without any gluing.  Just get the hole for you gear stick neatly cut so it does not split when pushed over the gearstick.
