Strange plug material in engine block.

Recommended Posts

I bought this engine disassembled.

The plug in question is between the fuel pump and the oil filter.

Am I correct in assuming it is for the oil pressure line  attachment.

No it is a cross drilled oil way/gallery blanking plug.

Item 17 here https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr5-6/engine/engines-components/external-engine-tr5-6-1967-76.html  Pt No PU1404.

Item 16 (qty5)  is the screwed steel plug that the oil pressure gauge or switch screw into along the main oil gallery.

The end surface of the screwed aluminium plug has been peened with a ball pein hammer to seal it to the cast iron.

Why do you want to remove it the take off for the oil pressure gauge is already there.

Have you a modification in mind?

Now have to remove it without getting any material into the gallery.:(

Best of luck with that

Usual issue is a bit of aluminium dwarf left in the thread.   Try dipping it in caustic soda to eat the aluminium away

Can anyone please advise on what type and thread size for this hole.... it's for the adaptor insert into the block to take the switch ..
