I have never liked vehicle electrics as half the time they seem to do their own thing and not follow logic. Having finally made all the connections I tested all of the circuits and suffice to say there were a number of issues, however armed with my avo I have tackled them all and have everything working except for the windscreen wipers.

I have removed the unit from the car and tried it on the bench, and although the armature reacts to 12v it isn’t turning. The bushes are worn but appear to still be making contact. I have nevertheless ordered new bushes and will see what happens. In the meantime I thought that I would investigate having the unit electrically refurbished; I have already done the outside, mountings etc.

I see that Moss do an exchange, but it looks pricy to me, especially given the fact that the unit is looking like new; on the outside anyway.

I will try the bushes first, but can anyone recommend where I might get the internals worked on, or where I may be able to purchase the parts?

Cheers, Mark

Is this a single speed wiper motor in a TR3A?  Moss Pt No LULRW113R or GXE7714  If so read on

I do still have a selection of NOS and recon parts for that early type motor assembly from the days of supplying Moss with their exchange units.    if you want to recon it yourself let me know what parts you need.  I do still have a couple of New Lucas armatures.

Alternative would be to send it to me and I could refurb the interior.  I do not have any exchange items available, but do have all the bits to repair the insides.  It sounds like you have already repainted the item, did you re- zinc- plate the lid and park switch cover?  If not I probably have a spare re-done set somewhere.

I am unable to do 2 speed units from TR4A-5-250 now at a price any one wants to pay.  Moss Pt No 514821R

I do not touch the round bodied units from TR6 or 7. ....Just get a  new one from the specialists. Moss pt no GXE7708

Cheers

Which wiring diagram are you using to wire up the wiper motor?   The one in the factory service manual is for non self parking CRT type motors only fitted to TR2 and early 3.  The diagram for 3A with self parking motor is in the hand book called Practical hints that the factory produced.

At stage I haven’t done anything with the internal wiring, but will bear it in mind if and when I do.

Is the motor in the car and driving the wheel boxes?   If you remove the motor and move the wiper rack by hand is it free to push in and out and turn the wheel boxes without any obvious resistance?
