Andy Moltu
The current vent flap rubbers seem way too short tall to allow the flap to sit properly. i recall alternative seals being discussed but can’t find the thread. Anyone remember which one? Andy.
Chilliman
Andy, a couple of us have binned them altogether & bought a length of black silicon tubing, cut it along its length, cut to size & glued the ends together to complete the seal. Just push over the lip & job done. Works a treat.
Rob Salisbury
Just like the available door and boot seals they need to be squashed in position for a month or so before they fit properly, a small dab of super glue in all 4 corners will hold the slightly too short seal in position while the squashing takes place. Andy Moltu
Tried that Rob. A year on and it still holds the lid up. What size tube did you use Chilliman?
Drewmotty
The info is covered in this issue of “In the Garage” https://www.tr-register.co.uk/group/devon/social-report/2019/11/1695/In-the-Garage-Winter-
Rob Salisbury
Hi Andy, Just to check I wasn't talking BS, I went out to the garage and reminded myself that the seal and vent lid (along with a multitude of other new panels etc.) came from The TRShop in London, as supplied the vent lid was fairly flat and I spent some time re-profiling it (no, that is BS!! .... I bent it to shape over my knee with my fingers!!) before I sprayed the car, also I used some small washers under the hinge to raise the back slightly, even so it still sat proud on the seal initially and was subject to a squashing routine whenever the car was just sat in the garage doing nothing, 2 years on and the thing now shuts like it's supposed to, ........ so maybe have a look at the profile of your vent lid and give the seal time. Cheers Rob
