Z320
If the belt is slightly smaller than 20 mm it runs deep in the pulleys and is "too long". I have s second Flennor 20X900 al a spare part, slightly wider than 20 mm, this runs higher in the pulleys - this is "shorter". A cogged Flennor 20X900 occasionally appers on eBay, a cogged "17" Gates is easy to get and works too (must be shorter) Edited September 13, 2022 by Z320

They are available in half-inch increments of internal length from 23 inches upwards. e.g. BX32.5 is 32.5 inches inside length / 895mm outside length. https://www.bearingshopuk.co.uk/belts/v-wedge-belts/?belt_section=24676&p=
peter clarke
If the alternator is hinged on 2 x lugs it is possible to remove the rear bolt loosen the front and then tilt the alternator and pully and get the standard belt over the alternator pully after it is engaged with the crank and water pump pulleys. Worked for me.
John McCormack
If the belt is too tight I undo the rear generator mounting bolt and loosen the front two. I manoeuvre the generator to get the belt over the pulley and replace the rear mounting bolt and tighten the front two. Problem solved.
