BlueTR3A-5EKT Posted May 29, 2018 Report Share Posted May 29, 2018 Yes, I got it out with a heavy thump, but it would never re-engage. I drove it using 1,3,4 R only 2nd speed top hat bush had failed. Needed mainshaft as well as bush, gear, synchro and lay gear bits. Peter W Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Nigel Triumph Posted May 29, 2018 Report Share Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Even if you manage to get the 'box out of second, something is seriously amiss. Best case, there could be a problem with detent balls/springs but more likely the gearbox will need to come out for deeper investigation. Chris59 Posted May 30, 2018 Report Share Posted May 30, 2018 I had this problem once in a TR3, on the M(6?) toll near B'ham, it was a damaged selector problem (the rail in the gearbox cover) : once the gear lever was removed, I took the second gear out with a big screw driver, and it went well for the rest of the trip.
