had17462
Hi all, took out the car today for another shake down run, it's holding in back, it's got a cheapie electric fuel pump which seems to be pumping really well 4 .7 psi , When I pulled out the choke it was great but over reving when coming up to a junction etc, anything I can do before I take it to a rolling road next week just to add some miles on the engine. Tom Boyd
So, running lean. What are your settings? Remember, if your running weak when running in it could cause huge problems..... Feel free to chat tomorrow if you wish. Tom

stuart
You shouldnt need that high a fuel pressure as you will find it can overwhelm the floats, Do you have a pressure regulator fitted? Does sound as if not correctly jetted so RR is the way to go. Stuart.
had17462
Stuart I haven't got a regulator as of yet ,I know they are cheap enough (£65)) ,spoke to Tom today had he suggested checking the plugs to see if running weak or rich, Took out the imulsion tube which is F11, idle jet 45-F9, top jet 20c, Just to say this doesn't mean anything to me but I thought I could give the guys the spec when I take it to the RR. Tom Fremont
Stuart I haven't got a regulator as of yet ,I know they are cheap enough (£65)) ,spoke to Tom today had he suggested checking the plugs to see if running weak or rich, Took out the imulsion tube which is F11, idle jet 45-F9, top jet 200, Just to say this doesn't mean anything to me but I thought I could give the guys the spec when I take it to the RR. NICK These are original fitment for the Lotus application, as supplied in all new 40DCOE151s. Apart from the chokes, few if any of the sizes will remain after the RR guys get through with them! Nick. Nick: Your data is somewhat contradictory. The blog photo shows that you are extremely rich, yet added choke improving performance indicates your mixture is lean. Since the Webers have separate idle and power circuits it is possible that both are true. Here are some decent instructions on tuning your Webers. I suggest you start there. Since the Webers have separate idle and power circuits it is possible that both are true. Here are some decent instructions on tuning your Webers. I suggest you start there. Vance I take exception to some of the advice in the tuning reference; specifically altitude compensation and " idle air jet size " . The former isn't required in my experience over a range of 10,500 ft. where plug color and fuel economy were unchanged and the latter doesn't exist per se, idle jets incorporating both fuel and air orifices. The plug shown is dark but not " extremely rich " to my eye, and because we don't know whether it was removed in " plug cut " fashion little meaning can usefully be drawn. Fortunately, there are numerous competent Weber specialists with rolling roads in the UK ( short drive away by U.S. standards ) who can sew this up in short order, requiring a sound engine beside the carbs and making an appearance . No such luck here in the 'States where one has to become his own guru. Cheers, Tom Edited February 23, 2018 by Tom Fremont
had17462
Thanks guys ,the garage still has my car it was very lean the butterflies was slightly out of balance ,I went up there to test drive it and it's so much better but has a flat spot when in fourth doing 1500-2000 revs ,will update next week. Tom Fremont
The last refuge of " the dreaded low speed gasp " is in the 1500-2000 rpm range. The main system has to come to the rescue and I've found the F7 emulsion tube best for the purpose. At least one specialist in the UK has suggested this more recently; I got my first ones in a used set of DCOEs else I may never have become the wiser. So if all else fails... I don't believe long duration cams are going to impress much at 1500 rpm anyway. Cheers, Tom
