Boot light for a TR5 ?

Recommended Posts

Any bright ideas ?

I want to fit a boot light that comes on when to you lift the boot lid. As you probably know the TR5 doesn't have a boot light and the hinges don't lend themselves to fitting a plunger switch like you get on a TR6. Just wondered if anyone else has done this and I'm looking for ideas.

I'm thinking of using a brake light switch on a small "L" bracket fitted to the flange top left inside as you look forward into the boot. This would be activated on/off by the boot rack mounting bolts. But before I carry on, I thought I would ask.. I guess this must be applicable to TR4A's and TR4's

Thank you

Best

Bill

Bill not sure if this will be of any help but Mk3 Escorts used a mercury tilt switch to operate the boot light, I have a spare one if you want FOC just PM me your address and I'll stick it in the post.

Hi Bill,

get yourself a very small person to live inside the boot (small people are under employed in our society) he/she can turn the light on.

I have one in my fridge. Haven't spotted him/her yet but must be there because the light works every time.

Roger

PS = why not put your brake switch so that the handle (hooked) lever operates it (out of the way )

Ha, ha.. :):):):) Very good. I think I've got some of those people in the engine bay. Full of mischief..Things turn off and on without any input from me.

Yep I've looked at the boot handle area. mmmm. Not sure, as any drilling might cause complications, but I'll certainly have a look at it again. Thank you

best Bill

The mercury switch idea would be the best as it can be fitted to the frame unobtrusively rather than having a switch on a bracket which you can guarantee will get caught on something. The mercury switches were also fitted to MK2 Jaguar boot lids BTW.

Stuart.
