Peter Douglas Winn
Consumtion now down to 15 mpg. Has anybody ever heard about choke sticking in brandnew SUs? I thought changing the ignition might make the situation somewhat better. Obviuosly no cure. Edited August 14, 2017 by Peter Douglas Winn
Alec Pringle
Sealed and guranteed ? For crying out loud, they're SUs not rocket motors . . . . . . What a bunch of poloney. I don't care who the bloody garage are, they sound like a complete bunch of tossers to me, either that or con merchants, or both, and neither concept is exactly novel when it comes to TR specialists . . . . . Find someone competent. Cheers, Alec
Peter Douglas Winn
Alex You have missed the point all work in Europe has a 2 year guarantee. Also the parts, except for medicinal things. Once I break the seals that they have put on (I would think its some kind of sealing wax.) They can wriggle out of the guarantee. So I am waiting till they come back from the school hols. Unfortunately coming up, I have a couple of long trips with the TR that's why the questions. I thought every little helps hense the ignition change suggestion. Obviously something is drastically wrong. Untill I know how they set the carbs up, I am only guessing. They are quite open and will tell me. Though first I have to ask the question. They will not tell me anything if I don't ask. Which I think is normal in the trade. Peter, At 15 mpg and worsening you aren't going on a trip anyway - if it goes much richer it might fail to run. Does the 'guarantee' include claims for that? For goodness sake, take the dome off fit the needles as suggested on here. Get 28mpg and go off on your holidays. And get your own back by posting the details of that cr*p garage on here. Peter Douglas Winn
Peter I have had a chat with the garage and they say they only measure stationary. Afterward do test runs. They do not have a 12 volt portable UEGO that they can use to record AFR as they drive. Can you give me a tip where one can obtained. I have looked in the DIYs and they don't know what I am talking about. Second question have you ever heard of the choke internally sticking when the knob is pushed back and the cam is free? This could explain why after 600 miles the consumption and CO values go rocket high. I do not understand why there is such a change of CO values after 600 miles. They have given to me in writing the measured values. Edited September 4, 2017 by Peter Douglas Winn
