Graeme Robinson
I've lost the drain taps for the block and radiator for my 61 3a, I seem to recall being told that the off the shelf items currently available are sub standard and leak badly. I'd welcome any feedback on this as if this is the case I need to start looking for a couple of original parts. ALso am I right in thinking that that Morris Minors and Austins of the same period used the same tap? Thanks Graeme
RogerH
Hi Graeme, I've bought a couple of taps from Moss in the last two years for my TR4 and both are fine. There was a problem but it appears to be thin on the ground. Roger
Fireman049
Hi Graeme ~ Here's what I did to protect my starter motor when draining the block. My drain tap had a 'lip' shaped outlet which allowed me to fit a plastic pipe over it. Tom.
ianc
To be certain that the tap won't leak once installed, dismantle it and then lap the surfaces together using very fine grinding paste - I emphasise VERY FINE! Remove all traces of the paste prior to re-assembly. This is a trick which Carl (at Revington TR) showed me. Ian Cornish
Fireman049
I agree with Ian. If you haven't got grinding paste then use 'Brasso' which is very 'fine'. Tom. Edited January 29, 2017 by Fireman049
Lebro
+1 for Brasso. Grinding paste too coarse. Bob.

Fireman049
My replacement tap did not require grinding in. Tom.
