Kerry
As the heading says, my car came fitted with an old 1980 Cobra alarm / immobiliser - had a little light and touch socket you have to prod the plastic stick like key into, its hard to get to (under dash and only just visible) so wondered if its possible to convert it to some kind of remote controlled system. Failing that how hard would it be to simply remove it, there are other security devices fitted so of anything its a bit of an over kill!
TriumphV8
No, because the system normally is woven into the original wires not to allow to get rid of this. You need a detailed wiring diagram and than can remove and fit another. I fitted several BOSCH RF 2000 alarm systems to my cars and from that know how this is normally done. My intention mainly was to overcome that nasty locking of the TR6 doors and do that with the remote. So I often did not fit the three way cut off system for ignition, fuel pump and starter and its still a lot of work.
Steves_TR6
My car came with an old alarm system. Was easily removed and a new Hawk remote locking system fitted. So now I have remote locking for the doors, not the boot though. Hardest part , assuming you are competent with electrics?, is likely to be fitting the drive solenoids for the locking. This will require ingenuity but isn't that hard. Steve
Kerry
Thanks Steve, by the way I am also a TR Register Member but for some reason its not showing, perhaps it because I keep asking daft questions :-)
