Gearbox tunnel fitting

Recommended Posts

I am fitting a racetorations 2-part tunnel - given to me by a third party.

I have bought the racetorations fitting kit, which has the same metal 'fasteners' as the Moss one - see link below.

In addition to the seal, there is basically what appears to be a captive nut on a spire-like mount, bolt, clamp and washer.

Am I correct in thinking that the captive nut/spire would slide onto the floor / flange (with the nut outside, then the tunnel and body are drilled to suit, then the clamp sits over the tunnel with a washer on that and then you bolt through ?

None of my permutations seem entirely obvious and I suspect that copious amounts of sealant will have to follow for the main (non removed piece?)

My floor has no captive nuts in place.

Thanks as always

I think the captive nuts fit around the half circular section at the front (fixed to the bulk head flange) of the tunnel not the floor. The wiggly plates go on top of the side flange of the cover through to the floor flange of the floor panel.

The tunnel you link to is a two piece item for a TR2-3B - orig tunnel is steel one piece.

The Moss fitting kit is for a TR4-6 which has a cardboard tunnel, replaced with aftermarket fibreglass or blow moulded plastic.(SAP in TRF parlance)

You state there are no captive nuts along the floors, you will need to do something - Big self tappers? Perhaps the use of TR4-6 wing spire fixings.

I use these things <<1/4 unf sized MS21059-L4 http://www.lasaero.com/site/products/article?id=N1KXS6OT>> attached with pop rivets if I am unable to weld in cage nuts. Then use the standard fixing screws with pointed tips for alignment - HU706P
