pfenlon
I have a pair of oil in gas struts which have lost their oomph. finding a firm on the net who said they could recharge them, I sent them off. I was told a week later that they couldn't do it because they had oil in the strut. New ones of the original dimensions aren't available. Oil of course is in compressible, so how do they work? I would be interested to know.
Steves_TR6
No idea how they work,... but I did find a really helpful and cheap gas strut company last year when I needed a couple for Amita. Can look them out for you if it would help Peter? Steve

peejay4A
There seems to be a bit of confusion about which type of strut.

AndrewP
Would the oil act as a damper at the end of the piston stroke perhaps? You can calc the NM force needed if needs be, but if you find a good local place they can gas the new ones to (for example) 300 NM and if it struggles or flies open too fast they can add or take away as needed. If you know what you need though, eBay and/or trailer caravan places have a good range of them. Cheers Andrew
