Mark Sadler
I was lucky enough to own a TR6 in the late 90's but due to marriage and kids I had to let her go, I would like to get back in to the fold as to speak, I have tried to find my old car NWR630M its showing as being T&T but to no avail, so I've been looking for another, does anybody have one for sale or know of one, thank you. simonjrwinter
On gumtree there's a LHD TR6 that looks to be in pretty good nick. The conversion from LHD to RHD is fairly painless Simon
Mark Sadler
Hi, I've seen that one, why are the pictures taken in the USA and not the UK, seems a bit iffy, I got scammed of gumtree last year trying to buy a car, thanks anyway.
simonjrwinter
If you contact them and they say "send me your money" I would say, yes of course it's a scam. However if you call and speak to a person who offers to show you the car and take you for a drive............... It's a USA. Car that's been imported into the UK (if it's genuine) lots of these on eBay with pictures taken in the US before being shipped back. SOME (although not all) American cars can be a much better starting point than a UK car (rust wise) and as anyone will tell you, body condition is EVERYTHING! Don't dismiss it out of hand just because you've been stung once, at least research it first Simon Ps, I was stitched up by a seller on gumtree as well, bought a BMW motorcycle, got it home and discovered the engine numbers filed off. The police came and did some sort of acid test which revealed the true number.
Mark Sadler
Ok I'll give it a go and see what happens, I've emailed them, thank you. Edited March 1, 2015 by Mark Sadler

simonjrwinter
Hhhmmmmm, not 100% sure it's not a scam but a phone call and a viewing would tell you one way or t'other Simon
Mark Sadler
My mobile is best contact plz check the ad for details This was imported last year No more pics only viewing available Sent from my iPhone I've just asked him for his land line tel number and some photo's of it in the UK and that's the reply I got, I think its a scam and I'm staying well clear, once bitten twice shy, its all sounds too similar, will keep looking. simonjrwinter
Sounds fine to me..... The scammers usually tell you that they are out of the country, send the money to an escrow account then they'll deliver the car to your door ...all bull5hit of course. The gumtree ad May of course still be a scam but he IS telling you can view the car (difficult if it doesn't exist!) Is there a reason why you haven't called him? Not having a landline isn't the sign of a scammer. If you speak to him of the phone you'd probably get a good idea from the off if he's a wrong 'un Simon

Grabea
Have to agree, if he's offering to show you the car and you see it with clear title etc don't see the problem, I have an ex USA E type and the body is really good, no rust to speak of unlike most UK cars on offer! Go and have a look then make up your mind. Happy Hunting Graham
Ghianightmare
Mark, have ou had a look on carandclassic.co.uk? Plenty of TR 6s for sale. I am putting mine up for sale but will be above your budget. In saying that it needs nothing - every mechanical thing that I could have possibly done has been done. I am not sure why you would consider buying in the USA when there are so many RHD available. Also - look on done deal.co.uk as there is a red one for sale Ireland that I think would meet your budget. It is most likely an ex uk car as it has been imported judging by the reg. There is no cost to reimport to UK. It is not my car and I do not know who is selling. I have just been searching the web trying to gauge what mine is worth.
Mark Sadler
Hi, I have been looking on carandclassic.co.uk nothing in my price range, I would not buy from the US but I was pointed in the direction of the one above that's apparently in the UK, never heard about done deal but that one looks great will be ringing up about that one thank you for your help, Mark. Mark Sadler
Hi guys, I've been to tr bitz and spoke to craig, was trying to buy the magenta car, nice car, had a test drive but I had to sell my car at the time to afford it, as it was a bit more than I had at the time and by the time I had somebody else had bought it, nice car who ever owns it now, went up to Newcastle to view the burgundy red 1 owner but he changed his mind on the day, classic marks German blue re import is nice but I can't afford the bits it needs, the white one in London for £11250 needs work ie gaps and paint, one in the midlands on ebay £8000 tried to buy it but sold to a chap in the same town, tried to get in contact with the one in Ireland no reply, went to see a red one in York today for £6500 early 69 non o/d on steels, not used since 1980, opened the shed door it was in and my bottom jaw hit the deck, it was a total wreck, needed a full and total restoration, I thought it was worth about £2k, but the chap said no it'll mot, just tape up all the holes in every panel it'll go through, it had no sills, no interior, what is a car like that really worth chaps, he did come down to £4500 and if I wanted some second hand wings it was an extra £1500, I walked rather quickly from that one, thank you for all the leads and I will keep looking. CONCRETE24
Hi Mark, For what it's worth (probably not a lot!), I think you are going to struggle to find a car without at least a few significant issues at this price. As an example - I am thinking of selling mine: 1974 original UK car It has good points - strong fuel injection, 6-3-1 manifold, sports exhaust, Revington suspension conversion, decent panels and fit, good hood etc. etc. But it has some bad points - Rust on lower suspension fitch panel, rust where n\s sill is attached (advisories on last MOT), leading edge of bonnet and front valance need tidying due to untreated stone chips\surface rust. Some of that would be obvious to a buyer - but the fitch panel? Unless the buyer tells you about it or you are extremely thorough - then you are only going to find out about it later and be disappointed. You do have the benefit of having owned one previously - so you know what to look for. You could drive a car like mine for many years with minimum investment - but equally you could inadvertently end up giving it a full restoration once you start uncovering issues! If I were buying a TR6 now I would be looking in the 12k -18k bracket and expect something more sorted. Good luck with your search - not trying to put you off - just want you to get a car you actually can drive and enjoy! Regards, Michael.
