CliveG
Hi everyone, my first post, although I have been lurking here for the past year or so and found the information needed to tackle some really fiddly jobs such as the vent lid mechanism, fitting the glove box and new carpets. However I am now stumped over a simple problem and cannot find any answers in the archive. Having replaced the front and rear indicator bulbs with the Litzup LEDs I just cannot get the lens back into the rubber holder. I have spent hours trying. I must be thick and missing a trick. Is there a special knack or tool required to do this? Clive
Ian Vincent
A bit of lubricant and a blunt screwdriver is how I do it. Vaseline works for me. Rgds Ian
stuart
Yes small very blunt or better still rounded off ended screw driver and once you have engaged one side of the glass keep the pressure on with one hand whilst working the driver round the rest of the rim. The chrome outer ring is the same. If the rubber boot is very old then they can be difficult. Stuart.
vivdownunder
Welcome Clive. Push the lens down into the bottom of the rubber holder. From the bottom, ease the lens into the holder bit by bit as above with a small flat screwdriver. I put them in dry but another lubricant is dishwashing liquid. Same procedure for the chrome ring. Rodbr
I know you must know this but it is a two stage process, with only the Rubber fit glass then the chrome ring after the glass is fully seated. Just a thought but make sure that the three screws holding the unit are slot flat head, anything thicker prevents the lens from seating and the the Chrome ring will never go in. Instead of Vasaline use KY jelly as it is water soluble but a very good lubricant, rubber doesn't like vasaline that much. Edited December 16, 2014 by Rodbr
CliveG
Yesterday, hours of frustration, getting nowhere. Today, 15 minutes to fit all four. I was being thick. I was trying to fit the ring and glass as a unit, thinking the ring held the glass in place. So easy once you know. Thank you ever so much everybody for your helpful replies. steve clark
Hi Clive I have not heard of Litz up LEDs. Can you tell us more about them please? Steve
CliveG
Hi Clive I have not heard of Litz up LEDs. Can you tell us more about them please? Steve They're made in USA especially for the classic car market and have a UK distributor, see link below. I've tried many other LED's but these are far and away the best (and ought to be for the price). I have changed the rear stop/tail and turn indicators and the front side/indicators. The rear stop/tail bulbs have the LEDs set at a right angle so they face the rear. The end result is the car is now much safer at night. Don't bother with their flasher unit though, I couldn't get that to work on the TR. Fitted a couple of 6 ohm resistors across the rear indicators and the original thermal flasher unit works fine with the LED bulbs. Bill and Phil who run LitzUpp UK are good helpful guys (and TR owners). http://www.litezupp.org.uk/home/4578949499 Clive Edited December 20, 2014 by CliveG
Bill Bourne
Hi Clive If you want to try a lamp, then please contact me. I have the stock at home and I live in Maidenhead, so not that far away. I also travel to Harpenden quite often, so could drop a bulb off for you to try. best regards Bill
