jean
Mish, as far as I know there is no towbar available for a TR, there was never a wide market for such things. But I have seen several custom made tow bars on TRs. If I remember well there was, some years ago, a report on TR Action, the club's magazine, about how to construct a tow bar. So there is nothing lost. I would follow Rex's advise and meet some owners from the club, it's the best way to find a good car for a acceptable price. And.. welcome to the forum and don't listen what Rob says Jean
scotty
Jean , The instructions for making one are on the "technicalities " CD sent out a few months ago. Mish send me a mail & I will try to cut & paste a copy to you on return . Welcome to the club
robgeev
Just lost interest for a bit Rex, not done much on the six lately, been busy doing all sorts-like to stick my head in the door every now and again though. My 6 gets new paint next week hopefully, engine nearly done-need to order shorter push rods and double check cam timing, fit front cover and seal-then finished. Should be nice if I get the webers sorted, if anyone is interested, there's a chance I will have a spare set of triple Dellortos with manifold and original SU's, also possible Revington rear damper conversion (bad feeling I have one already, but bought another on the spur of the moment!). Had flywheel lightened, front damper skimmed, extension chopped in half, no fan-going purely electric, 3 into 2 manifold into twin silencers, head big stainless valved, gas flowed and skimmed. I hope it all works! Rob.
hoppy
Mish, Whilst not wanting to promote another club on this forum the T.S.S.C. sell towbars for the TR6, price about £125 plus p and p, that is if you don't fancy making your own. Hoppy.

saffrontr
Mish, Wittor used to do a towbar for the six. I had one fitted to mine in the past. The main structure fitted within the rear bumper and was held in place by the rear bumper mounts to the chassis. there was also an additional fixing which picked up the circular chassis cross member which also holds the spare wheel tie down. Had a look to see if they still list it which they don't however it might be worth a call to them tel 01244 284500 to see if they'll make one up for you. Best of luck Derek
jemgee
Witter dropped the TR6 tow bar about 4 years ago, ditto all the other main makers. I did find one specialist who made them to order at about the same price as the TSSC one. I was lucky - I borrowed one from another Register member and had a small steel fabricator copy it - it is very simple and just bolts an angle across the rear outriggers which are already with a slotted hole and another central angle at 90 degrees picking up a bolt throgh the spare wheel pan floor through the circular cross member. This angle then kicks up at about 45 degrees to miss the rear bumper and has a larger angle mounted across it to mount the tow ball plate. I only use it to tow a camping trailer although it may be OK for a light 2 berth caravan or folding type. Be careful to make sure your outriggers are sound. Because of the age of the car the tow bar does not have to comply with the modern EEC testing regs. At any time the tow bar can be completely removed with only the hole through the circular cross member different to the original. Ground clearance is unaffected as itfits up tight to the underside and the silencers are lower
hoppy
Guinness, It's on the club shop page of the tssc site under exterior trim and care. tssc.org.uk/catalogue Hoppy.
tscharland
Greetings, How much can be towed with a TR6? I'd like to to tow 850 kg. Thanks for your help......Toby
jemgee
It is on their site under shop/exterior trim care and paint and are £166 non member price which is pd expensive as it appears you need to still buy the tow ball and electrics + VAT? Search on tow bars in the forum as its been on several times and there is a firm in St Albans?? who can make to order. Much cheaper to get a small steel fabricator to knock one up as detailed on the technicalities CD and buy ball and electrics from camping/caravan stockist
Rex Wyer
Hi Toby and welcome to the forum. The basic kerb side weight of a tr6 is 1085kg and I would suggest that you tow up to about 85% with a braked trailer. So thats okay for the amount you want to pull. Hope that answers the question
