peter moffatt
Hello All, I am at long last nearing the end of the restoration of my TR5. I have been beset by all manner of problems along the way but the fitting of the throttle cable has me stumped. I have fitted an uprated throttle linkage from Prestige but the new inner throttle cable appears 1 inch too long even after adjusting the outer cable to the maximum, consequently I can only attain half throttle when the pedal is fully depressed. I have tried numerous throttle cables but no difference. Has anyone had this problen & do they know the answer. Cheers Peter Edited May 30, 2012 by peter moffatt
Andrew Smith
Peter, My 6 has the prestige under-slung linkage and I have no problems fitting throttle cables (even repros) - I'm currently using a NOS TR5/6 one from TD Fitchett - ask for the yellow ones, see: http://www.mylocalservices.co.uk/Shropshire/Accessories_and_Parts/1051785/T_D_Fitchett_Triumph_Car_Spares.html Cheers Andrew
Guest ntc
Peter Pinky had this problem and if I remember right the linkage was not setup right
peter moffatt
Thanks for your response, but having made further enquiries I am no nearer to discovering the real problem. One answer to cure this fault is to shorten the inner cable by re-soldering the nipple at the throttle pedal end futher along, but this could cause problems if I have to replace the cable at a later date. I will let you know how I get on. Cheers Peter Edited May 31, 2012 by peter moffatt

The only yellow ones I ever remember seeing were in Sprites and Midgets. On the problem of the throttle cable length - Do the suppliers of the linkage also supply a cable? If so, order one and ask them why it does not fit their kit. Could be a simple assembly issue or a weird arrangement in the linkage kit. Cheers Peter W

Peter W, These are aftermarket one manufactured by Sedan with much thicker outer cases, brass coupling and ferrules, so won't pull trough the bulkhead like the **** repros do - two from Moss have done exactly that. Peter M, You shouldn't need to phaff about like that, it must be fitted incorrectly. Cheers Andrew
EDWAR02
Hi, I find Malcolm at Prestige to be one of the most helpful and friendly TR specialists. Have you tried calling him ? Mine is a Prestige "over the top" linkage and I have never had any problems with throttle linkages. The yellow covered cables from T D Fitchetts are excellent in quality and I have one in the boot as a spare.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Andrew, Have you told Moss their cables are no good? In days of old these cables were constructed exactly as you describe with brass ferrules and adjusters and a teflon liner. I still have a couple of odd ones around somewhere. Made cheap to meet the market demands these days I suspect. Cheers Peter W
Andrew Smith
Andrew, Have you told Moss their cables are no good? Yes, Peter - in fact (luckily?) the last one to strip through the bulkhead happened on the way to Moss - so handed the thing over to Jeff. To be fair to Moss though, all the repros are the same no matter where you buy them from as they a made down to a price. Cheers Andrew
peejay4A
Peter I had a similar problem and Pink put me on the right track. Make sure that the 3 throttle operating rods are set as long as they will go. That should bring the cable trunnion into a better position to get full throttle. You'll need to balance the butterflies of course but try to keep those rods as long as they can be.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Andrew, They were originally made by S J Clark, now gone I guess. http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/S._J._Clark_%28Cables%29 Cheers Peter W Edited June 1, 2012 by BlueTR3A-5EKT
