boggie
Hi All, I have 2x rebuilt H6 SU carbs that need dashpot oil. Just looked online and seen genuine SU oil for sale but it comes in a 125mm bottle. Being old-school I have no idea if this is enough to fill my 2 dry dashpots. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks! vivdownunder
Boggie, 125mm is plenty for the dry fill and later top ups. Fill them with the dashpot raised fully up, and pour to 1/2" from the top of the tube. That allows for the brass damper valve to be immersed in the oil without it overflowing. Dashpot oil is just SAE 20 grade. Regards, Viv.
ianhoward
Boggie I have seen a light '3-in-1' oil recommended as well as bog-standard 20-50 (convenient!). I have used both over the years and just fill as Viv has all ready stated. Brgds

TomMull
That's a 5" bottle in real money . AlanR I've always used what was in my oil can (motor oil). Three squirts must be equal to 125 mm -ml?. We yanks get confused with the metric stuff. I guess I'm not much of a perfectionist either. Tom
Badfrog
Any SAE 30 will do just fine (check lawnmowers and chainsaws oils) as will ATF oil. Badfrog
