John Morrison
Hi Keith, welcome to our forum, your car i srunning rish sir. John.
Nigel Triumph
As John says, your car is running rich. First simple checks would be the choke mechanism, either a sticking cable or the enrichment lever on the metering unit stuck partly open. If that's okay, the next suspect would be a vacuum leak on the inlet side causing the metering unit to deliver more fuel. Look for damaged vacuum hoses, inlet manifold gasket leaks or split metering unit diaphragm. If the above all check out okay, there's plenty more advice available here. Mike C
The colour can be hard to tell in the rear view mirror. It its in any way white or grey it's probably worn piston rings/bores.
Neil Ferguson
Check the return from the metering unit. If that's clear it's more than likely a fault with the metering unit.
