marki
Hi All. Just started trying to fit my Surrey top and the forward most fixings are too close to the edge of the rear deck, this is the two forward fixings. Any ideas gratefully received, Mark.

Just started trying to fit my Surrey top and the forward most fixings are too close to the edge of the rear deck, this is the two forward fixings. Any ideas gratefully received, Mark. Thats because those studs are there for fitment to a TR4 where due to the hood frame that was fitted the deck extension piece was straight at that point, once the 4a came out with a proper folding roof with hood attached that panel was "Waisted" to allow for the hood frame to fold. So on subsequent models this practice carried on to allow the hood frame to fold. Sometimes your lucky and that stud will actually pass just inside the panel and then can be fixed with an "L" shaped bracket but the usual procedure is to trim that stud off flush with the underside of the frame. Also dont forget when fitting you need the two studs at the "B" post top and they have a rubber distance piece on top of them, also all the rear studs have a rubber washer between the deck and the frame, though Moss show it as being a fibre one a tap washer works well.https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/weather-equipment/hard-tops/surrey-top-fittings-tr4-4a-1961-67.html Stuart. Did you put the studs in the "B" post tops, if not you might find the rear frame gets forced upwards when you try and tension the soft section frame and also at speed with no roof on. You do need to fit the trim panels as well before fixing it down. Stuart. Stuart.
