TR6 driveshaft assy gaiters advice

Recommended Posts

Just a little question

new hubs new UJs and new drive shafts the ones with the retaining nut

QUESTION

the open gaiter fits and protects the flange however the internal gaiter which spans the shaft when sliding

i remember the old type flange no retaining nut everything slides on job done

The gaiter has a large hole annd a smaller hole, large hole fits on the inner part and the smaller hole fits over the splines but NOT over the nut

Was it designed to go over the nut and i just need to keep trying to fit it or am i trying to fit something thats not intended

thanks in advance

David

How it looks to me.   Never done one but seen this type of shaft on propshafts and TR4A early model drive shafts.

Undo nut.

Extract seal from inside nut.

Slide nut off spline

Fit gaiter onto male spline part shoulder.

Re Fit nut

Re Fit seal inside nut

Screw nut to female spline part.

Fit gaiter over nut and onto female spline shoulder.

Secure gaiter both ends with appropriate fixings.

Or just leave off as the screw part should contain a seal that will keep the grease in and road dirt out.
