Am I correct in thinking that there is only one bulb in each of the rev counter and speedometer on my TR3A.

The speedometer one is not working, and the rev counter is pretty dim , also the usual rats nest of wiring plus the discovery of an additional “security” switch which turns off ignition under the dash , presumably fitted by PO was a bit of a revelation

Nice to have but could have led to an awkward moment !

Yes only one bulb each on these two and one shared by each pair of the small gauges.  A few people on here have fitted LED lamps which are brighter and can be a different colour.

It's always a bit of a lucky dip finding out what previous owners have done to the wiring.

Lucky dip is the right word ! Although to be fair any wiring changes that have been made do have some rational behind them, you just have to get into the mind of the PO !

Intend to fit some LED’s from ClassiccarLED

Yes if they are pressed steel case type.    If cast case type there are two bulbs in each for illumination plus the main beam warning of course in the speedo.
