Looking at the Moss parts list,  washer, 142388, says 'plain steel washer'  should these not be hard washers as they are a thrust washers?  Will be looking at doing the outer bushes there soon.

Can anybody confirm please?

John

Yes hardened.
….and something tells me they were originally cyanide hardened, which is like case hardened.  That was probably a spec on the original Triumph drawing.   Best of luck with getting cyanide hardening done today!

Yes, hardened,

the one on the photo I damaged (brocken) to check.

Some sell mild steel,

checking them they will bend.

Best you own old ones and use them further.

You should be able to test the hard ones with a file.

A decent hardened washer will cause the file to glide over the surface.

Mild steel will shed filings.

Absolutely correct!

I smashed it with a hammer only for this photo and a dramatic demonstration on another forum (years ago).

Sorry me if I caused any irritation!

The problem with this washers, dust covers, POM bushes, paint on the wishbones and spacers is the needed CORRECT length of the spacers.

All locked tight together with the castled nut (this is why the washers have to be hardened) is a solid metal unit

with minimum enough space between the washers to let the the POM bush slide on the steel distancers.
