Pressure gauge and adaptor to set A-type overdrive operating pressure.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an oil filled pressure gauge with an extension adaptor so that the car can be driven with the gauge in position. It's an A-type overdrive for a TR3A.

Thanks.

Des, have just picked up on this.
I have a new 0-600 psi oil filled gauge with a 1/4 bsp male connector.  The accuracy I am able to check as I do not have access to static dead weight testers these days.

I also have the Churchill Tools auto gearbox pressure gauge set with flexible hose, adaptors and gauge.  The adaptors do not fit the TR overdrive and the gauge is 0-300 psi. Plus All are what looks like 1/8 bsp threaded.      I am tracking down an adaptor 1/4 to 1/8 to fit the 0-600 gauge to the hose, then all I have to do is make/buy a fitting to go in the overdrive that connects the overdrive and the flexible hose.    With all this done you would be welcome to borrow said kit.
PM me if you are still seeking.

Yes Peter I'm looking at the contact that Tom gave me above, but as yet I haven't bought anything, So yes I am interested in what you have. My aim is to have a tester which I can attach and use while driving the car or at least static with the prop disconnected.

Regards.

The thread is 1/2” unf. You should be able to pick an adaptor up for a quid in the tea fund at your local hydraulics specialist.
I have a 1/4” BSP to 1/2”unf adaptor here if you are stuck.
1/4”BSP has a internal cone to take a hose fitting and the 1/2”unf is flat faced. I counterbored mine (just with a drill) to better replicate the overdrive cap.

One thing. The cap on the gearbox where the plunger for the O/D selector is retains the spring. Will your adaptor retain the spring at the correct position.

Peter, I've just ordered a gauge and adaptor from Dave at O/D spares. Thanks for the offer of yours and conversely if you still have trouble sorting out yours when I've got mine sorted you are welcome to borrow mine.
