Gear Box - Lost reverse drive

Recommended Posts

Hi

the TR5 traditionally goes in to the garage around Halloween and emerges on valentines day, with a occasional good weather winter driver  - this winter did not support this . so the TR5 emerged - groundhound style - to sniff the air with a short round the block trip ready for summer fun etc . All went fine until I swung the car into position to reverse back into the garage. Reverse selected as usual let off the clutch  no drive just a noise similar to a slipping clutch. No other noises clunks or gratings etc just no reverse drive  forward drive fine so clutch issue eliminated -- what next?  any suggestions where to look and why would car being static for the winter cause reverse to disappear/ I looked all through the garage and its not there  - Thanks

Sounds like overdrive is stuck in do not try reversing until you have disengaged it.

Stuart.

Seriously,  ... Overdrives only go one way and that's BANG if stuck in reverse and you try to reverse any distance (inches not feet), it should release if you drive around enough to get the gearbox warm with the overdrive switch OFF, if not a whack with a hide or hard rubber hammer on the edge of center ring of the overdrive sometimes works.

Good luck,

Cheers Rob
