rogcar
I want to replace these and am wondering whether to use spring compressors rather than disconnect drive shaft/damper per manual instructions. I cant see why compressors wouldnt work and it seems a lot easier. Am I missing something?
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Just disconnect the damper link. The whole trailing arm usually swings down far enough to get the spring out. No need in my experience to remove the drive shaft or hub when worn out regular springs are being changed.
Tim D.
yes, but word of warning... support the trailing arm on a jack before you undo the shock then lower the arm with the jack. just undoing the shock risks the trailing arm snapping down under the pressure of the spring. rcreweread
Guys - also be aware if you have CV jointed driveshafts, these can be damaged from excessive deflection if the trailing arm drops right down - you don't need to take the driveshaft out, just disconnect from the diff and that will allow sufficient movement - bit of a faff I know but better than removing it!
