John Morrison
Just curious as to what is the issue when the choke cable, will not stay out when needed, resulting in the judicious use of one or two clothes pegs? John.
Lebro
The shaft behind the choke knob has a series of ratchet type cutouts, the housing should contain a small half moon shaped disk, which is pressed into these cutouts to prevent the knob retracting. There is a circular spring clip around the outer part, this presses the half moon shape into the cutouts. To release, you twist the knob to rotate the shaft such that the cutouts are no longer held by the disk. What happens over time is: The edges of the cutouts get worn, allowing slippage The disk gets lost The spring gets lost It's all fixable, & when re-constructed ensure that the inner cable is installed such that there is a "twist" in it to always return the knob to the upright position. Many unknowing persons just push the knob back in instead of twisting it, this wears the ratchet quickly. Bob Edited November 10, 2021 by Lebro
RogerH
Hi Jphn, Bobs description was spot on. Here are two pics - the top one shows the rounded edges which allow the choke to slip back in. The newly made bottom one has well defined edges Roger
