Who remembers Harold Bate and his chicken powered car?

Recommended Posts

If you were driving in the early 1970’s there is a good chance that you had heard of him.
He sold a device to fit onto your carburetor to allow it to run off gas produced from chicken manure.

A friend of mine was so impressed he bought 2 of them.
(He never actually got around to fitting them though…)

This film is worth watching if you are concerned about petrol sales ending.
The last part describes a bottom powered bicycle that is so powerful it is almost impossible to stop.

I've often wondered why methane is considered to be a greenhouse gas and not a useful fuel.

I think the greenhouse gas problem is caused by cows farting.

It’s got me thinking and I’ve been sitting in the bath tonight with a glass of wine working on a way to capture cows farts and put them to use powering car engines.

It may take a while to perfect.

in the Arab states they keep their cattle in sheds out of the sun.

Good point Roger.

Methane is lighter than air.

If the cowsheds were made with a conical roof they could put a pipe in the top to collect the gas.

In fact there are thousands of old oast houses scattered around the country that could be converted.
