front shock insert

Recommended Posts

Just recently I found a pool of oil by my nearside front wheel. Assuming it was the brakes I stripped cleaned and replaced the seal and pistons and pads  on both sides. I was miffed to find a small quantity of oil again by the same wheel and a wetness to the bottom of the strut.  I took out the pads and could see no leakage from around the new seals.

Q. does the capsule contain fluid? I thought it was gas but maybe that's the expensive version.  Could the capsule have rusted or cracked? I value advice before I start again stripping down to replace things that don't need it.

Sounds like a leaking suspension damper (shock absorber) perhaps.   Even the 'gas' ones have oil in them as the damping fluid.
