Thanks Colin. I am beginning to feel that I have the same problem and that new glass - maybe even a trip to see Gary - is the only solution!

This is the difference between the two windows.

Stuart.

Thanks for those photos Stuart especially the overlapped images which shows the difference acutely.

I'm trying to visualise it...because the bodywork is the same from the front scuttle backwards to the rear of the cockpit between TR4/4a/5 surely the difference in the "hole" which the side windows close off is caused by the slightly different  roof frame of the later cars...is it ? The front edge of the side windows must match to the windscreen frame ? and the rear edge of the same window match to the upright section of the rear backlight on a surrey topped car ?

Is this correct ?

No the problem is in the winder mechanism itself thats all, everything else is the same hence you can end up with gaps.

If you zoom in on this picture taken a few years ago of mine before I replaced the 5 glass (all that was available when it was rebuilt) you`ll see how the glass doesnt fit right all round, didnt matter so much with the soft top when I first restored it but once I fitted the Surrey then it became really noticeable.

This looks identical to mine so I am more or less convinced! Thanks Stuart.

Does anyone know the period that the TR4/4A glass was unavailable?
