Phil H 4
Hi looking to replace the coil on my 1972 CP TR6. The car has a new loom but don't know when fitted and has Pertronix electronic ignition. How can I establish which coil to fit, Ballasted or Non-Ballasted. Many thanks Phil

Mk2 Chopper
If you check the coil it will be approx 1.5ohm instead of 3 ohms if it's ballast resisted. Normally early cars don't have it. If you switch ignition to on you should see 8v on ballasted cars not 12v at the coil. Gareth
Phil H 4
Thanks Gareth.
Andy Moltu
If it is a CP it should be a 3 ohm coil as standard (12v) CRs had a 1.5ohm coil work8ng at 8-9v with the ballast resistor built into the feed wire.
Phil H 4
Thanks guys for the advice. Prior to changing the coil I thought i'd check the existing one as suggested. New thread... Dead Ignition. Defiantly not going anywhere lock down or not. Phil
