For all oldie TRers

Recommended Posts

As the elderly are most at risk for covid-19 and as I have many TR pals who fall into that age-group, might I draw your attention to the use of a "D3 hammer" by a Canadian physician to cure flu.  http://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/8746-covid-19-novel-corona-virus-split-from-off-grid-thread/page/2/&tab=comments#comment-118152

Vitamin D3 is a hormone that controls ca 10% of our genes and induces production of antimicrbial peptieds eg cathelicidin that act agianst a range of viruses. Its a fair bet that covid-19 will be susceptible, but obviously theres no research published  yet.

Stay safe,

Peter

Taking vitamin D is such an inexpensive and easy step for anyone to do. Are any of the national or international health agencies advocating it as a defense against covid19 ?

The author of the paper is a member of the USA-Canada expert committte on D3. He told the USA Inst of Medicine about their amths error, and IoM refused to change their advice. And that sums up the vast majority of the med profession, they remain ignorant of the true nature of D3: its a hormones that controls 2000 of our 20000 genes,a super-promoter. And the UK lags behind USA.

Obviously no study of D3 against covid. But it is known to induce expression of genes for cathelicidins, that defend against enveloped viruses ( that includes  coronas)  and bacteria.

The only reason I know about it is because I came across D3 use in MS and PD and , as a cell biologist, realised the bigger story So in a sense readers of this thread have privileged information.

Shhhhh - don't tell everybody, the shops will run out.

Roger, Indeed.  Then you're left with a tin of sardines ( 2000 IU), or bathing under a UVB lamp ( up to 10,000 IU per side per day). Supplements are made from fishoils or from lanolin in sheepwool, both likely to run out even if a small fraction of the at-risk population sought them. Peter

Appreciate the links Peter. There is a dearth of real info here in the US so we rely on the Internet to stay informed. I'm a bit concerned with the documented issues with very large doses of Vit D given my history but if I get sick I wont hesitate to step up my current 1000 IU daily dose.

Stan, Believe it or not USA is waaaay ahead of UK with D3. Thhere is even a D3-focused charity. It sponsored this talk by the late Prof Heaney MD in whcih he makes the arguments for the correct level of blood D3 based upon physiology not medical tradition.

https://ucsd.tv/search-details.aspx?showID=29077

It takes severl weeks for blood levels to equilibrate after a raisng the dose so if you  think 1000 too low act soon. There will probably be a postal servcie for measuring blood 25(OH)D3 , there is in UK
