J R Martin
Hello All, Does anyone have the knack of fitting new bulb holders etc into the rear over riders of a TR4? My six foot long arms, cw UJs at each end, seem inadequate despite the over riders being on the bench. Many thanks in advance John
tr graham
John Pull the metal bulb holder clear of the rubber holder , fit the rubber then with a bit of grease lightly smeared on the holder push it back into the rubber holder ,whilst gently pulling the wires from the inside graham
RogerH
Hi John, if you are getting close to suicide have a look at item#150 https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/spitfire/electrical-system/lighting/rear-lamps-spitfire-mki-1500-1962-80.html This is the spitfire equivalent. A little easier to fit. Roger
J R Martin
Many thanks Roger, My problem is that I cannot remove the existing bulb ( could be in there for more than 50 years) without breaking it and I assume it needs to come out in order to remove the existing bulb holder? I had already ordered a new "original bulb holder" but they are on back order! Never mind I will get there in the end! Regards John PS I will not make Stoneleigh for the same reason. RogerH
Hi John, if it is a problem of holding tin order to twist it then use marigold/workshop gloves. These grip the glass better. Roger
J R Martin
Many thanks again Roger. Marigolds are way out of bounds but I will try your workshop gloves suggestion over the weekend. Am I correct in thinking the bulb must be removed before it is possible to withdraw the bulb holder and this in then removed from the back? Thanks in anticipation. Ian Vincent
If you don’t want to use Marigolds, wrap masking tape around your fingers sticky side out. It will give you loads more grip. Rgds Ian
stillp
Or wrap the masking tape around the bulb. Pete
