Waldi
I’m currently working on the body panels, not my forte! The bonnet aligns ok with fire wall and front wings. I was able to correct a tapered doorgap (RHS) from (6 mm - 2 mm) (top and bottom) to (3.5 mm- 2 mm) by removing 2 rubber plates (6 mm thickness in total) from the B-post. That went well. But 2 mm seems too small to me, so a bit more work to do. now my questions: I looked everywhere for target dimensions for panel gaps on the doors but was unable to find any. Are there any reference dimensions, or recommendations for this? I am aware the front gap cannot be too small to avoid the door contacting the front wing when opening the door. And should the B-post door gaps be parallel or have a slight taper to allow for flexing during use? Thanks, Waldi
len1
Hi Waldi I worked to 5mm gaps before paint , and I am very happy with the end result. I did keep all gaps parallel Len
ed_h
My target was 3/16"--just under 5 mm. Personally, I think it's more important that the gap be consistent top to bottom than being a specific dimension, as long as it tsn't too wide. Ed
len1
ohh, thats a timely reminder . i was going to work to 5mm and could only find a 3/16 drill bit (showing my age ! ) sorry if i misled you Waldi . Len Edited March 28, 2019 by len1
Waldi
Hi Ed and Len, thank you for your guidance. In the RHS bottom if the door I only had 2 and 4 mm. The easy solution was to put a tapered rubber shim between rear wing and vertical B-post (lower part only), this gave a gap of 4 mm. Almost there, and so far no hammering or grinding was needed. Topoff
Hi there is a good gap checking device that's readily available and only costs a pound........ They used to be round but they have a few sides now. Can you guess what it is yet?
ed_h
It's common here in the US to use the paint mixing sticks that paint suppliers give out free with paint materials. Ed
